Poet T. L. Sanders presents his art house film The kNew-Born, a 2019 KC Fringe Festival Producer’s Pick. The kNew-Born is a prequel to kNew, Sander’s one man poetic performance and partly-autobiographical story of a son who returns to Kansas City to mourn the death of a prodigal father he hardly knew. The kNew-Born tells the father’s story, a convict slash drug addict who craves a connection with his children and now has a chance to earn parole—that is, if he can fight against himself and become a better man than he has ever been before. Sander’s film addresses the incarceration of Black men, the costs of addiction and the heartbreak of children growing up without fathers. Sanders wrote, directed and stars in the film. A Q&A with Sanders will follow. Copies of Sander’s book, kNew: The Poetic Screenplay and sequel to kNew-Born will be available for purchase.
