Event Details

Alex George, an award-winning author, bookseller and literary festival director, will speak on the importance of Literary Citizenship, a philosophy that creates a culture of reading and encourages support for the literary community.

Alex George is a writer, a bookseller, a director of a literary festival, and a lawyer. As an author, George has written three best-selling and award-winning novels, A Good AmericanSetting Free the Kites, and The Paris Hours. George is also the founder and director of The Unbound Book Festival, a free event which brings nationally and internationally recognized authors to Columbia, Missouri each spring. In addition to writing, he owns an independent bookshop, Skylark Bookshop, in downtown Columbia. In 2022, George was named “Bookseller of the Year” by the Midwest Independent Booksellers Association. He is also a practicing attorney in his spare time.

A social hour with cash bar will begin at 5:30 pm followed by dinner at 6:30 pm and the author presentation at 7:00 pm. The Olathe North High School Culinary Arts Program will cater the meal.
