About the authors:

Rebecca Coffindaffer: Rebecca Coffindaffer (they/she) grew up on Star WarsStar Trek, fantastical movies and even more fantastical books. They waited a long time for their secret elemental powers to develop, and in the interim, they started writing stories about magic and politics, spaceships, far-off worlds, and people walking away from explosions in slow motion. These days they live in Kansas with their family, surrounded by a lot of books and a lot of tabletop games and one small fuzzy dog. They're the author of the YA space opera duology Crownchasers, out now from HarperTeen, and Thronebreakers, coming 10/12/21.

Miguel Flores: Miguel Flores is a Filipino-American currently living in the Midwest. Prior to writing a middle grade novel, they went to school for Business Information Management, taught high schoolers about racial justice and toxic masculinity, and sang “Baby Shark” at a shelter for elementary school kids. They like to refer to their background as a halo-halo or “mix-mix” of experiences. When not working at the library, you can find them perching on chairs to “unlock their throat chakra” or performing spoken word poetry at local coffee shops. Sometimes they laugh too loudly at their own jokes. Miguel is the winner of Penguin Young Readers’ and We Need Diverse Books’ Roll of Thunder Writing Contest. The Hungry Ghosts is their debut.

Sarah Henning: Sarah Henning is a recovering journalist who has worked for the Palm Beach PostKansas City Star, and Associated Press, among others. Sarah is the author of several books for young adults, including the Indies Introduce/Indies Next selection Sea Witch, and its sequel, Sea Witch Rising; The Princess Will Save You, The Queen will Betray You, and the King Will Kill You (August 2022); as well as Throw Like a Girl and its companion book, It's All In How You Fall (May 2022). When not writing, she runs ultramarathons, hits the playground with her two kids, and hangs out with her husband Justin, who doubles as her long-suffering IT department. Sarah lives in Lawrence, Kansas, hometown of Langston Hughes, William S. Burroughs, and a really good basketball team.

L.L. McKinney: Named one of The Root’s 100 most influential African Americans of 2020, Leatrice “Elle” McKinney, writing as L.L. McKinney, is an advocate for equality and inclusion in publishing, and the creator of the hashtags #PublishingPaidMe and #WhatWoCWritersHear. Elle’s also a gamer, Blerd, and adamant Hei Hei stan, living in Kansas City, spending her free time plagued by her cat–Sir Chester Fluffmire Boopsnoot Purrington Wigglebottom Flooferson III, esquire, Baron o’Butterscotch or #SirChester for short. Her works include the Nightmare-Verse books, Nubia: Real One through DC, Marvel’s Black Widow: Bad Blood, and more.
