Event Details

We’ll start with the basic nine patch block and recut and rearrange to make a new block layout. Participants will also learn about different layouts and border treatments. Finished blocks can be used in variety of projects.

In order to learn 2 different versions, you MUST come with the required number of square fabrics precut.  You will be making 2 blocks of each version so that you can see the design created by that method.  If you already have a rotary cutter and 12” quilting ruler, please bring to class.

Version 1 block includes 2 coordinating colors (ex. red and blue), a dark color or loud/bright color, and a neutral (white or cream).

Cut 4 (4 ½” squares) of EACH of the coordinating colors = 8 squares

Cut 2 (4 ½” squares) of the dark/bright color = 2 squares

Cut 8 (4 ½” squares) of the neutral color = 8 squares

Version 2 block uses 5 different fabrics from the same color family and 5 different fabrics from a coordinating color family (ex. pink and green, blue and yellow, red and blue).  Please use fabrics from your stash that are in the same color family, but not necessarily that the theme of the fabrics in that color families are similar.  These are just test blocks for you to learn the process. For this block, the color is more important than the designs of the fabrics.

Cut 5 (5” squares) from each of the 2 color families = 10 squares

Cut 8 (5” squares) of a light neutral- white, cream or tan = 8 squares
